CIT PROGRAMS (for teens ages 15 – 18)

Are you looking for a great summer experience working with children? If so, then join us and become a Ballona Beach Summer Day Camp LLC Counselor in Training (C.I.T), it is a wonderful opportunity for teens to develop leadership skills in recreation and gain valuable work experience.  We offer two programs for young people who are interested in learning about group leadership, program planning, communication, working with kids, health & safety, creating a positive environment, and facilitating activities.

Ø       Volunteer C.I.T.

This program is an entry level position which may lead to becoming a paid

staff member*.  15 and 16 year olds are eligible to participate in this program.

The objective of this program is to develop leadership skills, and to help yourself

and others learn to achieve goals.

Ø       Junior C.I.T.

This is a paid C.I.T. position.  It is the final stage of the C.I.T. program.  17 and 18

year olds are eligible to participate in this program.  The objective of this program is

to further develop skills in leading and teaching children.  Junior C.I.T.s will

design and lead some activities and special events, and gain an inside view as

to how a camp runs, and the responsibilities of those who run it.  C.I.T.s in this group will receive a stipend for their work.

A minimum commitment of three weeks is required of Volunteer and Junior C.I.T. participants.  C.I.T.s work a full day Monday –Friday from a.m.to with a 1 hour on site lunch break.  Acceptance into the program is based on an application and interview.  If accepted, each C.I.T will be assigned to a counselor and a group of children. C.I.T.s are provided with a staff shirt, appropriate training** and upon completion, a certificate of participation. All program participants need to bring their lunch and sunscreen from home, and should wear all bathing attire underneath their clothes.

Teens who wish to participate in Ballona Beach’s C.I.T. program need to complete and submit the following:

ü       An Application

ü       Application for Work Permit (Required for those under the age of 17, even if you are applying for a volunteer position)

Get the permit from your school guidance counselor.  Ballona Beach will sign the Application for Work Permit and send it back to you.  If this will take time attach a note to your application explaining the delay.

ü       Consent Form – Completed and signed by your parent/guardian if participant will be under the age of 18 years old after June 1, 2007.

ü       Terms and Conditions – Completed and signed by your parent/guardian if participant will be under the age of 18 years old after June 1, 2007.

*Participation in the program, while a good first experience and an opportunity to make her/himself known, does not guarantee any CIT future employment with BBSDC.

**To become a C.I.T. students must complete a three-hour training course.
