Who Are These Guys and Gals?

Oh, they are just some of the most fun, energetic, and responsible counselors we could find.  At Ballona Beach we hand pick our staff through a rigorous interview process.  To make sure that the people we hire are worthy of interacting with your children and wearing the Ballona Beach emblem.  We are also one of the few camps in Southern California whose entire staff has undergone background checks.

Once hired, our staff goes through an extensive training program.  During training they learn how to maintain camper safety, and provide opportunities wherein campers can experience success.  Through numerous character building activities our counselors learn how to encourage physical and mental growth in our campers.  We also educate them on specific strategies to guide campers to make good moral decisions, and on how to boost campers' self images. 

At Ballona Beach we make sure every staff member is certified in First Aid and Child/Adult CPR by the American Red Cross.  Our counselors are well trained in beach safety, including proper hydration and sunblock protection. 

Ballona Beach Summer Day Camp was designed by Elizabeth, a UCLA graduate with her Masters who has worked as a credentialed teacher in Los Angeles County for over a decade, and Michael, a consultant on developing programs for several camps and former director of one of the largest and most historic camps in Southern California.  Together they have integrated the most important aspects of character education with the best practices of summer camp life, to develop one of the state's most comprehensive camp programs.
